Even ocean plastic can become lovely...
I don't know about you, but seeing images of and reading stats about the volume of plastic in our oceans makes me weep. The good news is, there are a number of clever businesses out there collecting that plastic trash and turning it into useful things we all need, right here in NZ. Like jandals.
We all own a pair at least and they do not last forever, so when you need a replacement check out Subs, a NZ company making jandals (they are more universal, calling them flip-flops) from recycled plastic found in the ocean. Even better, is that each pair can be upcycled too. Subs efforts have so far removed 42,584 kg of plastic from the oceans - my golly this gets me excited. If you'd like to get involved with beach cleanups here's the link.
Another company turning this huge problem into a desirable product is Adidas. They began making shoes then moved onto a swimwear from recycled plastic which I think has a lovely symmetry about it - for the oceans, from the oceans. Here's the Adidas Parlay range, available in NZ.
