From fire hoses to handbags

Discovering Elvis & Kresse made my heart go aflutter and inspired me to write this blog to showcase just how gorgeous products can be when the materials used have been transformed and rescued. I don't know about you, but at first glance I couldn't tell what material these bags had been made from, which just goes to show how great design can solve a problem. Elvis & Kresse started in 2005 making absolutely GORGEOUS bags, belts, wallets with the decommissioned fire hoses from London's fire department. They "focus on quality craftsmanship and classic, timeless design" plus they reduce a large amount of otherwise unusable material going under the earth to see out its days. Thereby, honouring the material by placing a greater value on it.

Elvis & Kresse are so passionate about reducing waste and saving quality materials that they've moved on to producing gorgeous lifestyle products made from parachute silks, coffee sacks, leather and printing blankets. One of my faves is the modular rug made from high quality leather off-cuts from the luxury European fashion industry. Elvis & Kresse know that consumers get bored of home-wares so they designed these small leather pieces that can interlock to become other shapes/sizes, not just rugs. I think this way of designing is brilliant. I also think their donating 50% of their profits to The Fire Fighters Charity is pretty brilliant too. Check out their other gorgeous products and more of their story here and let me know if your hearts go aflutter like mine...
